Periodic check for updates

Description

At the moment Calibre only checks for updates on startup. If you leave Calibre running 24x7 this means it is easy to miss an update becoming available.

If Calibre could check periodically (I would suggest once a day) then the GUI would be updated to show the update is available. This would make it easier to see an update is outstanding without the need to visit the forums.
