Hi Kovid,
added a german translation file. version 002. :)
Whats about the "&" e.g. in line 310: msgid "Author So&rt:" Why is there a "&" in the word "Sort"? Or is it a conversion error?
I am not sure for what the & is needed...
I did use poEdit for MacOS - http://www.poedit.net
comment:4 follow-up: ↓ 7 Changed 3 years ago by kovidgoyal
Thanks. The & is used for keyborad shortcuts in the GUI. In the GUI you see some words with a single letter underlined, that letter acts as shortcut for keyboard access to the related textbox.
I've updated the file in svn, you should be able to see the results in the next release.
comment:5 Changed 3 years ago by anonymous
Kovid,
some phrases are not translated yet. And the translation is not smooth yet. I have to check that in the next release.
Stefan
comment:6 Changed 3 years ago by kovidgoyal
If you have access to a linux system or can run the vmware development environment, you can check the translation from svn, Otherwise, the next version should come out soon, once I figure out a couple of showstopper bugs.

Not in version 0.4.17 for MacOS - didn't even find one word with underlined letter.
Maybe you can mail me an overview of all keyboard shortcuts - so I can adapt them to german version.
comment:8 Changed 3 years ago by stdo
Oops, forgot to log me in. :)
Replies 5 and 7 - that was me.
So maybe you can send me the shortcuts overview.
Stefan
comment:9 Changed 3 years ago by kovidgoyal
Basically, the & defines the keyboard shortcut. So for example the string:
"Au&thor" would have the shortcut Alt+t. Apparently OS X doesn't believe in keyboard shortcuts. But they do show up on linux and windows. Basically any translation string that comes from a .ui file and has an & in it (except when the & is followed by a space) is a keyboard shortcut.
comment:10 Changed 3 years ago by stdo
99% done in v004.
comment:11 Changed 3 years ago by kovidgoyal
looks good thanks. committed to svn.

comment:13 Changed 3 years ago by kovidgoyal
oops I forgot to mark some strings for translation. See updated de.po file in svn.
comment:14 Changed 3 years ago by stdo
de.po file updated.
But we have a problem with german Umlaute: ä, ö, ü, and ß.
See line 67 in de.po:
"Falls die Quelldatei ein Umschlagbild enthÀlt, das Umschlagbild der "
It should be:
"Falls die Quelldatei ein Umschlagbild enthält, das Umschlagbild der "
Maybe it is only a display problem of Trac...
By the way...
...updated de.po
comment:15 Changed 3 years ago by kovidgoyal
Yeah it a Trac display problem. It looks fine in the file and in the app itself. Incidentally added for more strings to de.po.
comment:16 Changed 3 years ago by stdo
The following phrases are still not available to translate (libprs500 v.0.4.19):
-- Edit metadata individually Edit metadata in bulk -- Send to main memory Send to storage card -- Convert individually Convert in bulk -- Library -- Reader XX MB available -- Card XXX MB available --
You know where to find them...

I made the Catalonian traslation (using po of the v005 german translation). How can I attach it? (sorry I'm new). I'm also working in the Spanish traslation.
comment:19 Changed 3 years ago by Raül Utrera.
I found how attach a file :) (silly me, I didn't see it before). Still working in Spanish traslation.

Thanks. There were a couple of bugs in the file, which I corrected, so for further work, please use https://libprs500.kovidgoyal.net/export/805/trunk/src/libprs500/translations/ca.po

Hi ! I would be willing to give a try at a French translation... If I understand well, I should use an initial file ?
comment:23 Changed 3 years ago by kovidgoyal
@Stdo Updated strings in svn
@Raül Thanks, updated in svn.
@FixB Use the file https://libprs500.kovidgoyal.net/browser/trunk/src/libprs500/translations/fr.po
as the initial file and attach the updated file with the translations here.
comment:24 Changed 3 years ago by stdo
Hi Kovid,
look at the following part of your instructions:
Specify the base font size in pts. All fonts are rescaled accordingly. This option obsoletes the --font-delta option and takes precendence over it. To use --font-delta, set this to 0.
Shouldn't it be "precedence"?

Right you are, thanks.

Thanks for the file, I'm working on the translation. I just had two questions : . What do I do of those '&' in some texts ? Should I keep those ? In front of the same letters (sometimes I don't get those letters). Should I keep them, but elsewhere ? Should I just skip the '&' ? Thanks :) . Can you explain me how to test the file ? Where to copy it in order to activate it in libprs500 ?
Thanks !

Try to download kovids VM at https://libprs500.kovidgoyal.net/wiki/Development. There you can update libprs500 via svn and build your on build of libprs500 with your language file for testing.
Thanks !
You are welcome. :)

Hi Kovid,
I opened Ticket #557 and assigned it to myself. German users can post there their suggestions for improvement of german translation.
Found a typo again:
Use the <b>Test</b> functionality below to test you regular expression on a few sample filenames.
Found it? :-)

how can I change the language in libprs500 running on your VMware Appliance?
I'd like to check german language file and shortcuts - because with MacOSX there are no shortcuts.

Hi Kovid,
I'd like to start Italian translation, can I use a previous translated .po file (IE es.po or fr.po) or I need a new .po file? Sorry I'm a newbie in this field. Thanks
comment:50 follow-up: ↓ 51 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
The .po file for italian is here https://libprs500.kovidgoyal.net/export/1384/trunk/src/libprs500/translations/it.po
comment:51 in reply to: ↑ 50 ; follow-up: ↓ 53 Changed 2 years ago by iacchi
I've prepared a first italian translation (see attached file).
I've done it quite fast because with release 0.4.45 italian user (at least on linux) see the program partly in Spanish and partly in German.
I apology with kalderm@… since he arrived first asking to translate the program, and I arrived first submitting the translation; maybe because I'm quite used to these things (I altready translate in italian Sunbird and part of Firefox). If he wants, we can cooperate for libprs500 translation, since two brains work better than one. When Kovid will release the italian translation, I'll make a post on my blog (which has become a sort of center for prs italian users)and we can use comments to improve the translation, toegether with other users.
comment:52 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
Thanks, I've added the translation in svn.

I want to report some strings which have to be made localizables:
- All the strings, buttons and tooltips of the windows to add a book or to export it
- The OK and Cancel buttons of the windows to convert a book, add a feed and so on
- The update message (latest version, etc.)
- In the configuration window, the menu items "Normal, Low", etc.
- In the book conversion window, the preprocessing types: "no preprocessing, baen", etc. In the same window the word "None" in the embedded font menu
Tomorrow I'll try to look for these strings on the command line scripts.
comment:60 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
For technical reasons, none of those strings can be translated (basically they all come from the underlying GUI toolkit or operating system). THe only one that can be translated is Latest version. I've added that.
comment:61 Changed 2 years ago by iacchi
It's a pity these strings can't be translated. Anyway, I have some other string for the GUI:
When I said the latest version string, I meant all the string, even the "Current version" (or what it says precisely) part! The last one: in the library view, when you go on a coloumn which is editable, appears a tooltip saying "Double click to edit me" which is not localizable.
Now, the command line scripts.
In epub2lrf these strings are not localizables:
- "epub2lrf converts mybook.epub to mybook.lrf"
- "Whenever you pass arguments to epub2lrf that have spaces in them, enclose the arguments in quotation marks."
- "Options:"
- "show program's version number and exit"
- "show this help message and exit"
- "Specify the character encoding of the source file. If the output LRF file contains strange characters, try changing this option. A common encoding for files from windows computers is cp-1252. Another common choice is utf-8. The default is to try and guess the encoding."
- "METADATA OPTIONS:"
- "LOOK AND FEEL:"
- "Minimum paragraph indent (the indent of the first line of a paragraph) in pts. Default: 0"
- "PAGE OPTIONS:"
- "LINK PROCESSING OPTIONS:"
- "CHAPTER OPTIONS:"
- "PREPROCESSING OPTIONS:"
- "FONT FAMILIES:"
- "DEBUG OPTIONS:"
- "Be verbose while processing"
- "Convert to LRS"
- "Created by"
- "No epub file specified"
In rtf-meta nothing is localizable except "Usage"
In mobi2oeb nothing is localizable except "Usage"
In feeds2disk only the "web2disk options" explanetion and the explanetions of the following parameters are localizable: --feeds=FEEDS, --verbose, --title=TITLE, --username=USERNAME, --password=PASSWORD, --recursions=RECURSIONS, --output-dir=OUTPUT_DIR, --no-progress-bar, --debug, --test
In web2disk nothing is localizable except "Usage"
In lrs2lrf nothing is localizable except "Usage"
In lrf-meta these strings are not localizables:
- "Show/edit the metadata in an LRF file."
- "Options:"
- "show program's version number and exit"
- "show this help message and exit"
- "Created by"
- "No lrf file specified"
In lrf2html nothing is localizable except "Usage"
I'll do the others later.
comment:62 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
Again for technical reasons the section headings like METADATA OPTIONS cannot be translated, but I've added ~75 new strings from the various command line utilities.
comment:63 Changed 2 years ago by iacchi
I'm not sure one of the new strings is correct: "Convert LRS to LRS, useful for debugging."
comment:64 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
Yeah it's correct :)
comment:65 Changed 2 years ago by stdo

Hi Kovid,
what is the difference between "German" and "German, Low"?
I translated "German", do I have to Copy and Paste the phrases for "German, Low", too?
comment:76 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
I have no idea, I'm guessing german should be enough. What I would suggest is you download the de.po file from launchpad and look at it/test it to make sure it is ok.
comment:77 Changed 2 years ago by stdo
Hi kovid, I added the "German, Low" file in launchpad. Could you give me permission to accept these uploaded/changed translations for german language in launchpad. So I can review and accept these changes (almost done only by me) in launchpad...
comment:78 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
Done.
comment:79 Changed 2 years ago by iacchi
Kovid, can you make a screenshot of whe window where I can find one of the latest string you've added: "dialog"? I'm not so sure how to translate it and I can't find it in the UI. Thanks.
comment:80 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
Sorry, that string should not be translated, I'll remove it the next time I refresh the translation files. In the meantime, you can translate it however you want.
comment:81 Changed 2 years ago by iacchi
I'd like to know if the translation I make in launchpad is automatically moved to trunk. I've translated some string the day yot released 0.4.55 but they're still in english in 0.4.56
I've just checked and they're still translated on launchpad.
comment:82 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
No they're not, I sometimes make quick bugfix releases, in which case I dont import the translations.
comment:83 Changed 2 years ago by iacchi
Kovid, there's a thing I can't understand: the string 330 is in it.po:
&Rimuovi formula
and it's quite old (so it should be present in 0.4.62). Nonetheless, in the program dialog the string is:
Rimuo&vi formula
But I can't understand why. I mean: all other strings are updated and correct, why no this one only? Are you sure you've made this shortcut localizable?
comment:84 Changed 2 years ago by kovidgoyal
For some reason the new translation in Launchpad is not overwriting the old translation in the po file. I'll change it manually for the next release.
